On Monday September 10th (the day after our 6th Wedding Anniversary, my how time flies) we welcomed Nitro into our Family. Nitro is a 2 1/2 year old Boston Terrier. At first Jet & Ares were not quite sure about Nitro, but now they have realized that he will be staying and are beginning to tolerate him.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEif7oj6mRBT42OZBNfX0PvT6mBcUzaY_9YTaJbfguVWZDidm2AaYkldcEUdfvQTgsk9FyJ7Rq-3_WUbdwpURhrkyF6VGfvu-q19xuSp3Oc1QSyCx2j45Jf8ZmF2xtUCkTESBDhX0g/s1600/002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEif7oj6mRBT42OZBNfX0PvT6mBcUzaY_9YTaJbfguVWZDidm2AaYkldcEUdfvQTgsk9FyJ7Rq-3_WUbdwpURhrkyF6VGfvu-q19xuSp3Oc1QSyCx2j45Jf8ZmF2xtUCkTESBDhX0g/s320/002.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Jet and Nitro are turning into good pals. Nitro is very good about
sharing the toys with Jet (Jet not so much, but Nitro is much faster so
he usually ends up with them). Nitro is very respectful and I would say he
"plays well with others".<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyDcp1Jd_gqie3yQsxF3ziaeCzRc7Ab7KopeLwNuhuz5tTTlZQBfdA7s7uwwUseFJ0fNmgKSZskZ4VAxMvI0Q2XD7y1qWqfc5xRlDK7LNku6krnWM04VJ1ogrcvpx_ZQJOoIXr9A/s1600/083.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyDcp1Jd_gqie3yQsxF3ziaeCzRc7Ab7KopeLwNuhuz5tTTlZQBfdA7s7uwwUseFJ0fNmgKSZskZ4VAxMvI0Q2XD7y1qWqfc5xRlDK7LNku6krnWM04VJ1ogrcvpx_ZQJOoIXr9A/s320/083.JPG" width="320" /></a><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-huMDW-yySww/UGm3ZckwdaI/AAAAAAAAPHA/Kxr2fVAKtZk/s1600/036.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-huMDW-yySww/UGm3ZckwdaI/AAAAAAAAPHA/Kxr2fVAKtZk/s320/036.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
Ares and Nitro are having a great time together. Ares sleeps in Nitro's
dog bed quite often and when he is
in there Nitro brings him toys. I think Nitro wants Ares to throw the
toys for him, but he's learning. They also chase each other around and
play hide and seek. It's pretty hilarious. <br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
Chris loves having a dog around that wants to play hours of fetch
(Jet gets bored quickly). We purchased a Chuck-It stick so that we
don't tire out faster than Nitro!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As for me, Nitro is a great
walking buddy. We usually go for a walk with Jet (he's an old man and
can't go too far) and then we drop Jet off and head out from anywhere
from 3 to 5 miles. He walks so well on the leash and even jogs with me a
bit. He'll keep me in shape for sure!</div>

We had a great time roasting hot dogs at the new fire pit, combing the beach for treasure, hiking along the nature trail at Andy's Marine Park, golfing with our new caddy Ella, buying Salsa and Turnovers at the Farmers Market, and enjoying each others company.<br />
<br />
9 Humans, 3 Dogs, One Tiny Cabin!<br />
<br />
Ella and Cousin Buddy were fast friends.<br />

<br />
5 Month Old Mazie is getting HUGE. She loved the beach, and taking all of Buddy's Toys (Buddy, not a fan...)<br />
<br />

Buddy loved the girls. Here he is with Sadie in his favorite "Please to rub my belly" position.<br />
<br />

(Yes another Fitbit post)As I mentioned, I am addicted to the <a href="http://www.fitbit.com/">Fitbit</a>, and I wanted to share a bit about how it motivates.<br />
<br />
Not only am I motivated by my desire to rack up steps, floors climbed, calories burned, etc. I'm also motivated by earning "badges". Now this may sound trivial to you, but to me....well let's just say it actually works.<br />
<br />
Fitbit awards you badges for milestones met. So far I have my 20,000 steps badge (for over 20,000 steps in one day), my 50 Mile badge (for covering a total of 50 miles-hoping for another badge soon as I am now at 134 miles logged!), and my 25 floors climbed badge. And yesterday, I received notification that I had received my Helicopter badge (!!!!). Of course I had no idea what that meant until I opened it up:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoqQjJh8I5G9Cd8PLSdUlP_gAYxIOYlPqtudHLnd0jrmalQbPkMK1TFpn77dNDT3oAoLqWHYNuxERUirlABXXidnTH3le1vhuOFyg1ud9eq5t19i7Jj0QEJAhaB5aU8iyWIyuYKQ/s1600/3-14-2012+6-53-08+AM.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="263" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoqQjJh8I5G9Cd8PLSdUlP_gAYxIOYlPqtudHLnd0jrmalQbPkMK1TFpn77dNDT3oAoLqWHYNuxERUirlABXXidnTH3le1vhuOFyg1ud9eq5t19i7Jj0QEJAhaB5aU8iyWIyuYKQ/s320/3-14-2012+6-53-08+AM.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Of course now I'm motivated to double that and reach 1,000 floors so I can see what the next badge is! Yes, I'm a Fitbit geek.<br />
<br />
Oh, and an update on what a good sleeper I am. I've managed to walk and climb and workout so much that I am now logging 100% sleep efficiency. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMe_pXNbwDAv3FHU95Yd-uaP5NtXOkv483Qef1pJyVqG9ZSEMcmig45W8AtZnKdp96JWMyXzzPcTzqChmVfwRKQnRHubU8HV7BwOxL0-hqxlaXi9Ei-tPpgx8h8gzm10sr5WT-xA/s1600/3-14-2012+6-52-26+AM.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="166" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMe_pXNbwDAv3FHU95Yd-uaP5NtXOkv483Qef1pJyVqG9ZSEMcmig45W8AtZnKdp96JWMyXzzPcTzqChmVfwRKQnRHubU8HV7BwOxL0-hqxlaXi9Ei-tPpgx8h8gzm10sr5WT-xA/s320/3-14-2012+6-52-26+AM.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Of course, it could be because I've subconsciously figured out how to keep my arm still all night long.<br />
<br />
Chris came to bed the other night and apparently I was sleep talking to him about how I couldn't move my arm, and I had to keep it still, so I could be a good sleeper. Apparently I've now motivated myself to sleep really well. Not a bad side effect.KikiRikihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06345360036229847782noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37179605.post-30646099380964373492012-03-12T08:22:00.000-07:002012-03-12T08:22:16.691-07:00Loving the FitbitIf you've had dinner with me lately, or met up for happy hour, you've already heard this, but I'm loving my <a href="http://www.fitbit.com/">Fitbit</a>! <br />
<br />
I've now had it over two weeks and have managed to wear it every day. I've also managed not to lose it yet, which I feel is quite the accomplishment. Also, my addiction to "steps" has come back. <br />
<br />
I find myself walking around the house while brushing my teeth, picking lunch spots if they are farther away, and walking Jetty for even longer in the evenings. Also, with the included floors climbed counter I find myself climbing the stairs at work, spliting up the recycling so I have to take multiple trips to the recycle bin in our garage (down stairs and then back up!), and finding dog walk routes that include stair climbs. And, the included sleep monitoring has allowed me to really see the impact of even 1 hour of missed sleep!<br />
<br />
All in all it has really motivated me and I'm loving the Fitbit! <br />
<br />
This past Saturday was a big activity day. Started with <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Leslie-Sansone-Really-Big-Miles/dp/B005BX3NKK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1331565325&sr=8-1">5 Really Big Miles</a> with <a href="https://twitter.com/#%21/lesliewalks">@LeslieWalks</a>. Then a shopping trip to Target, 4 loads of laundry (lots of trips up and down the stairs to our basement), two big dog walks, and a benefit auction in the evening. Here is what that day looks like via Fitbit:<br />

Chris calls it a metaphor for Grandma: It had a big fall,just like Grandma, but wasn't ready to give up yet. So we left it there, reaching for the sky!<br /><br /><center><a href='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/show_photo.php?p=12/02/28/1443.jpg'><img src='http://photo.blogpressapp.com/photos/12/02/28/s_1443.jpg' border='0' width='281' height='210' style='margin:5px'></a></center><br />- Posted using BlogPress from my iPad<br />KikiRikihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06345360036229847782noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37179605.post-31168535258795961472012-02-24T07:14:00.000-08:002012-02-24T07:14:05.892-08:00The Fitbit - Confirming I'm a Good SleeperI recently ordered a <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Fitbit-Wireless-Activity-Sleep-Tracker/dp/B005PUONIK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1330095323&sr=8-1">Fitbit Ultra from Amazon</a>. <br />
<br />
For those of you that have known me for some time, you'll remember my <a href="http://remjones.blogspot.com/2007/03/crisis-averted.html">addiction to my pedometer</a> while training for the <a href="http://remjones.blogspot.com/2007/06/1000000-steps.html">3 Day a few years back</a>. I find that I exercise better and stick with it longer if I have some sort of competition going with myself.<br />
<br />
So recently I signed up for the <a href="http://runrocknroll.competitor.com/seattle">Seattle Rock and Roll 1/2 Marathon</a> (<a href="https://www.facebook.com/angie.marmion">Angie </a>had signed up for it so I figured what they heck, I should too....Thanks Angie!). But after signing up for it I realized I haven't walked let alone jogged 13.1 miles in quite some time. Now don't get me wrong, I haven't been just sitting around on the couch, but well..... 13.1 is a long ways. So, enter the need to get some training in. I did some googling (I just love using the term) and decided upon the <a href="http://www.fitbit.com/">Fitbit </a>Ultra for this training period.<br />
<br />
The Fitbit comes with the standard Pedometer functionality (tracking steps) but also includes an altimeter (for tracking flights of stairs, or in my case elevation changes on my death marches). It wirelessly connects to a docking station attached to your computer and updates your stats whenever you're within 15 feet. Then you can log into your Fitbit Dashboard and track your progress. Here is an example of daily stats (yesterday's results):<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyE7Yin74-tBJ1dPhyphenhyphenHOxp7vmR0oKE0-ovn-IZv70uXruzUkk7n8RuRtTxxj2btuWdSgUsLm1xH66qj_ZD_afEmfl67uumllFKPjdxKBmW9EeG6hr0Tqd5m1IK6psWeYaF9IK1wA/s1600/Stats.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="260" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyE7Yin74-tBJ1dPhyphenhyphenHOxp7vmR0oKE0-ovn-IZv70uXruzUkk7n8RuRtTxxj2btuWdSgUsLm1xH66qj_ZD_afEmfl67uumllFKPjdxKBmW9EeG6hr0Tqd5m1IK6psWeYaF9IK1wA/s320/Stats.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
You can also sync your Fitbit account with your <a href="http://www.myfitnesspal.com/">Myfitnesspal </a>account (which I've used for some time to track my eating habits) to give you the whole picture.<br />
<br />
However, my favorite part of the Fitbit so far is the sleep tracking. You wear a wristband to bed with the device hooked to it to track your sleep patterns. The next morning it spits out how effective your sleep patterns are, how many times you wake up during the night, what time you went to bed, how long it took you to fall asleep and when you woke up.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhh5gkVRyCEASdoB2myBFR7DF8AxP63cUdDFQiCVRAT0GukB28BcNNy6xpac_n9_vtYdyhHILo4T4NJOK4c47643Taa-MztasAFOL-sll5cRhPQMKNKhstjLM-Tye3XkjhGUzqrig/s1600/sleep.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="167" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhh5gkVRyCEASdoB2myBFR7DF8AxP63cUdDFQiCVRAT0GukB28BcNNy6xpac_n9_vtYdyhHILo4T4NJOK4c47643Taa-MztasAFOL-sll5cRhPQMKNKhstjLM-Tye3XkjhGUzqrig/s320/sleep.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Turns out I'm a darn good sleeper! At least I've got that going for me.<br />

I adore <a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0221046/">Zooey Deschanel</a> , add in some Joseph Gordon-Levitt and this is too good to be true. Enjoy, and have a fantastic New Years Eve!<br />

<br />
One day it was happy, bright, and quick to turn the pages. Then, all of a sudden, lines began to appear across the top of the screen, the pages ceased turning, and the screen became a mess of black & gray writing and lines...oh the lines!<br />
<br />
Apparently this is not unheard of for older Kindles (I had a second generation) but it isn't something that Amazon can fix. Luckily they have a program where for a reduced fee they'll sell you an upgrade (not the newest versions, but a new to me version). <br />
<br />
I hadn't realized just how addicted I was to my Kindle until it began it's death spiral. I was right in the middle of a book! However, it didn't even cross my mind just to run to the store and buy a copy of the book. And, I could just use the Kindle app on my iPad or iPhone to read. But, oh no, I had to whine and groan and gripe about it to Chris for hours. <br />
<br />
Luckily for Chris my new one arrives tomorrow!KikiRikihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06345360036229847782noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37179605.post-41227763869524533842011-12-28T09:16:00.000-08:002011-12-28T09:16:33.099-08:002011 Holiday Season in Bullets<ul>

We've been shopping for months, finally test drove a few weeks ago, and fell in love with the new Jeep Grand Cherokee.<br />
<br />
I managed to snap one picture of our actual vehicle. I realize it is a crappy photo, so I've included a stock photo of how awesome it is.<br />
