B'day Weekend Recap

I was so lucky to get to spend my birthday weekend with my family on Anderson Island! But especially with these three little cuties:

Jet had a blast playing with his "cousins", and I think they like him a little bit too:

Even Esme likes little Jetty Pants:

Then there was BAKP (Big Al the Kiddies Pal) who really enjoyed getting out and fishing with Mr. House:

He even managed to catch one:

Even Ella had a blast fishing:

And Sadie had a blast getting marshmallow everywhere:

Best B'day Weekend EVER!

Close to Nature

Friday morning Chris and I took our kayaks out on the sound in an attempt to catch my b'day dinner. Chris managed to land a 23 inch Silver!

Of course, then he had to clean the fish (which I do not help with). Once he had cleaned it he threw the carcass down on the beach in front of the cabin.

I was not aware he had done that.

Jet and I were taking a walk on the beach and I had stopped to check my email (phone gets the best reception on the beach for some reason).

Jet was wading in the water and I was responding to messages when all of a sudden I heard this "Woosh, Woosh, Woosh" and looked over just in time to see a giant Bald Eagle not 20 feet from me swooping down, grabbing the fish carcass, and then flying away.

Boy do I wish I had a picture of that.

Condoms Overseas

I did a quick Google search today for tips on what to pack for our European adventure. I typed in Packing List for Europe. The first result was of course from Rick Steves. The third result though caught my eye because it was titled: The Ultimate Packing List for European Travel.

I mean it said Ultimate, doesn't that sound perfect.

So I followed the link and began to read through the list. Seemed almost a duplicate of Rick Steves' list until I got to the "Keeping Clean" section where I stumbled upon this:

Is this true? Do the Europeans know?? Have we offered to share our Condom wisdom and safety standards with the rest of the globe?

I don't remember ever hearing about a population explosion in Europe caused by shoddy condoms.

I Despise Shopping For Rugs

Especially kitchen rugs.

Yesterday I went looking for new kitchen rugs for Chris's family cabin.  I had purchased some new ones last year but had made the mistake of getting light green ones.

Light green, in a cabin, on Puget Sound, where we go fishing, and beach walking, and it rains....a lot.

So I thought hey, I'll go look for some darker rugs, with non-skid backing, and a low profile (to fit under the doors).

Sound easy enough right?  I thought so.  I went to Target, Bed Bath & Beyond, and Marshalls.

I found lots of cream colored rugs.  And the light green and light blue ones.  I'm pretty sure they were all bathroom rugs.  I found some nice dark colored wool rugs, without non-skid, and well...wool.  In damp Puget Sound?  No thanks.

And then I found what I thought was going to be the jackpot.  At Marshalls.  In the very back.  On the bottom shelf.  I spotted some blackish, low profile, non-skid rugs.  And I pulled them out one by one......Roosters.  ROOSTERS.  ROOSTERS on every single one.  There must have been 20 rugs there.  Perfect rugs, the right size, the right profile, the non-skid, the dark color.......but there were ROOSTERS!

I'm pretty sure ROOSTERS don't fit into our cabin theme.

RIP John Hughes

Thanks for making the passing of those "awkward" years a bit less painful.

Well hello August....

Wow, where has the summer gone? Can you believe it is August already? And Seattle has already hit 103 degree weather. What might the next 6 weeks of summer have in store for us.

We have been so busy (hence the lack of blog posts). It seems like every Sunday I think "thank goodness that busy week is over" and then I realize that the week coming up is even busier.

For example this week looks like this:
Monday - Locks Cruise
Wednesday - Sounders vs. Barcelona at Qwest Field
Thursday - Envision Reunion
Friday - Mariners Game
Saturday - Wedding Reception (Woohooo Joe & Lisa!!) & House Warming (congrats Matt & Megan)
Sunday - B'day Party

You're probably looking at that thinking "Holy cow that is busy", but that seems to be the norm for us this summer. Lots of Sounders Matches, Mariners Games, boat cruises, cabin trips and spending time with great friends.

The rest of the summer looks like it is going to be just as busy. More trips to cabins, more Sounders Matches and Mariners Games, spending as much time with Kara as possible before she moves (*sobs*), and enjoying our city and our friends. All of this leading up to our belated Honeymoon trip we will be taking to London & Paris in September!!

Summer Rocks!

Summer rocks!
